Your Initial Evaluation and What to Expect
A typical course of treatment for most pain patients can last between 8 and 12 weeks, with individual treatment sessions scheduled at a rate of once a week. Plan for the initial diagnostic exam to take approximately 2 hours.
At Tyler Headache Center your initial examination begins with a questionnaire. It is important to understand what specific issues and pain symptoms you have been experiencing right from the start. This could include a history of accidents or problems you experienced many years ago. The more Dr. Morgan knows about you and your history of headaches, migraines, TMJ or face pain, and muscular tension issues in the head and neck, the more quickly we can begin using our diagnostic tools to evaluate you.
Your initial evaluation provides critically important and objective diagnostic information that can help us help identify the root causes of your symptoms. Our examination includes a computerized measurement of the force balance in your mouth on a tooth-by-tooth basis, and additional measurements of the disability of your muscle movements. Then your mouth movements will be measured to determine range of motion. With our pain-free tests we can target the root causes and identify where the neuromuscular force problems are generating pain symptoms.
The remainder of your comprehensive examination will help you and Dr. Morgan pinpoint other related areas of mouth health, muscle health, tooth-related issues, and other potential problem areas that will be addressed during your treatment.
The initial visit also includes a comprehensive review of your unique medical history. When you share your medical history with us please be sure to provide complete and up-to-date information on your health. Inform our office if you have experienced a recent hospitalization, undergone any surgical procedures, or have been sick. Please share with us the tell us the names, dosages, and frequency of use for any medications you are using currently, regardless of whether they are over-the-counter varieties or prescribed by doctors. Please include the name of your physician(s). Let us know if there have been any changes in your health or medication usage. This information will help us to choose the safest and most effective methods of treatment.
